UI/UX
I was brought onto Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion to help out with UI/UX and general Vector Art. Before being on the project, the UI looked good, but wasn't a consistent kit throughout all the screens. There was no consistency.
Below are shots of the Old UI compared to the new UI that was added to Turnip Boy.
Dialogue System
In older builds of Turnip Boy, we had a dialogue system that consisted of little paragraph blurbs that would appear above character's heads. While this was nice for quick information, we found that when we wanted to execute a joke or make a character feel more in-depth, the timing just wasn't there. Comedy really benefits from pauses, so we decided to revamp the dialogue system and in-turn revamped the UI.
Vector Art
All of the UI work required working with vector assets. Turnip Boy, however, has a unique blend between pixel art and vector art. Anything that's in the over world is made with pixel art. We thought that it would be an interesting twist if the dialogue system and our UI was vector art. I believe that it adds another level of story telling. Details that you couldn't get with character pixel sprites you can now see in the vector versions when you talk to them!
